Bon Scott signs for Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar have again turned to local talent after signing goalkeeper Bon Scott to their A-League squad as an injury replacement player.

Scott, 23, came to prominence in 2019 following outstanding displays for Brisbane Strikers in 2019 in both NPL Queensland and the FFA Cup – including a pair of stunning penalty saves in his side’s cupset win over Wellington Phoenix.

His returns were rewarded later that year when he was honoured as the NPL Queensland Goalkeeper of the Year.

He joins the Roar as a replacement for regular starting goalkeeper Jamie Young, who has been sidelined with a knee injury.

Scott’s signing comes after his own frustrations with injury - a knee and then a shoulder injury conspiring to sideline him for the majority of the National Premier Leagues 2020 season.

Now fully recovered, Scott told www.nationalpremierleagues.com.au that he is raring to go for the Roar in the hot house atmosphere of the A-League if he is called upon.

“It’s an awesome feeling to sign with the Roar," Scott said.

“Of course, it is disappointing that Jamie Young got injured, but he is a model pro and I am sure he will be back soon.

“I have been working hard for this opportunity and I am grateful it has come at the Roar and I am now looking forward to enjoying and making the most of it."

Prior to his stint with Strikers, Scott also spent time at rival NPL Queensland clubs Western Pride and Brisbane City, as well as previously being involved with Roar’s youth system.

“The NPL clubs I played at were massive for me to develop my game," Scott explained.

"They provided a platform for me as a young goalkeeper to play and I can’t thank those clubs enough for the opportunities," he concluded.

Scott could make his A-League debut as soon as tomorrow night for the Roar when they tackle Newcastle Jets.
