Former Wanderer Cordier joins APIA

APIA Leichhardt FC have continued to ramp up its 2021 squad with the unveiling of former Western Sydney Wanderers and Young Socceroos left-back Mathieu Cordier to its player roster.

The 21-year-old comes with some pedigree to the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition having made three appearances with the Western Sydney Wanderers’ senior side as well as winning two caps for the Australian Under 20’s squad on top of being part of the Red and Black’s Championship winning NYL season in 2017-18.

The eager young gun was looking forward to making his debut when the club kick’s off its 2021 campaign when they face Blacktown City later this month.

“I can’t wait to start off my journey with the club," he told nplnsw.com.au

“I chose APIA as they’re one of the biggest NPL clubs in the country and the staff and players I already knew there made it quite clear that this team will be top contenders for silverware in 2021.

“They’re a top bunch of guys, the players have made me feel very welcome from the start and it was really easy to settle in.

"I am now looking forward to establishing a connection with them all on and off the pitch.

“Our objectives are to win the competition and any titles that are on offer as well as playing entertaining football in the process.”

One such player that Cordier is sure to learn from is one of NPL New South Wales' most respected number 10’s - the ‘maestro’ Franco Parisi.

“Franco is obviously a top player and an important leader in this team," Cordier said of his new teammate.

“His technical ability plus experience and Football IQ makes him a real pleasure to play with.

“This is the same with many of the boys that remain from that 2019 NPL NSW Men’s Championship winning squad with the likes of Adrian Ucchino, the Symons brothers and Sam McIllhatton to name a few.”

The young gun joins fellow new faces Blake Powell, Hassan Jalloh, William Mutch and Harry Callahan as APIA look towards snatching some silverware following its NPL New South Wales 2019 Championship title.
