NPL Review: Avondale held by Dandenong debutants

Former Hyundai A-League stars Brendon Santalab and Adrian Leijer helped Dandenong City hold NPL Victoria leaders Avondale to a 0-0 draw away from home on Saturday afternoon.

Santalab and Leijer – who signed on at the club alongside former Melbourne Victory captain Carl Valeri last week – made their debuts and inspired the Endeavour Hills-based outfit to a hard-fought point.

It is arguably the club’s best result of the campaign so far, having secured just eight points from their previous 13 matches.

Valeri did not feature on the day, but Leijer and Santalab – the latter booked in the 60th minute – made an instant impact against a side who remain four points clear at the top of the ladder.
