Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley told footballfedtas.com.au the announcement marked an exciting step forward for football in Tasmania.

“With close to 40,000 participants, football is Tasmania’s most-played team sport and continues to rise in popularity, especially among junior players,” Mr Bulkeley said.

He added: “As well giving Tasmanians exposure to the very best players from Australia and abroad right here in Launceston, the partnership also offers exciting opportunities for community engagement and player development which will greatly benefit our aspiring junior and youth players.

“We’re looking forward to working with Western United to raise the profile and popularity of football in Tasmania even further and will continue to pursue opportunities to bring more elite level football matches to the state in the future.”

Calder United are based in the north-western suburbs of Melbourne and have proved a growing force in NPL Women’s Victoria in recent seasons.

After COVID-19 scuttled their 2020 fixtures, Calder United will go into the 2021 season as defending NPL Women’s Victoria Champions following their 2019 Grand Final win over Bulleen Lions at AAMI Park.

They are also the competition's defending Premiers after winning an astounding 24 of their 27 fixtures in the 2019 home-and-away season.

Calder United are set to commence their NPL Women’s Victoria campaign in April when they host Alamein FC in the first fixture of the season.

Fixture details for their clash with the Tasmanian Women’s Select side will be announced at a later date.
