PS4 NPL WA Round 18 Preview

Cockburn City will face Armadale in the PlayStation 4 NPL WA Round 18 southern derby this weekend, with both sides coming off strong results against top teams last week.

In Round 17, Cockburn held off then-league leaders Floreat Athena with a 1-1 draw, while Armadale fought third-placed Sorrento in a goalless draw.

Cockburn coach Scott Miller said his side, who last played Armadale in round six and won 3-2, will be looking to take the points again on Saturday.

“Last week we saw good results for us and Armadale against the bigger name clubs, so the derby’s going to be a good game,” he said.

“The first time we met this season, we probably got the goals just at the right time and there wasn’t really much between the two teams, so this will be another tight contest.

“Armadale are a much-improved team from last season. The style of football is different and the results show that.

“The quality of players they’ve got in there is very good so it’ll be an interesting game.”

Armadale coach John O’Reilly said he’s expecting another close match this weekend.

“Both teams will feel confident after getting a result against tough competition last week,” he said.

“Last time we met with Cockburn, we felt we could have got at least a point, if not the three points out of that game.

“We made a few mistakes that gifted Cockburn a few opportunities so hopefully we’ll tighten up on that area and be a bit more clinical  this weekend.”

In other Round 18 action on Saturday, Bayswater City will host Sorrento at Finance 365 Stadium, sitting fifth and third on the PS4 NPLWA ladder respectively.

League leaders Inglewood United travel to Securitas Protect Stadium where they will take on Mandurah City, while Floreat Athena head north to meet ECU Joondalup at ECU Joondalup Football Stadium.

Perth SC face Perth Glory at Ashfield Arena, while Joondalup United meet Balcatta at Percy Doyle Reserve and Subiaco host Stirling Lions at Rosalie Park.
