PS4 NPL WA Round 17 Review

Subiaco emerged from a second-half goal frenzy to score a 5-3 PlayStation 4 NPL WA victory over Joondalup United at Rosalie Park on Saturday.

The sides were locked at 1-1 in a tight opening 45 minutes before the floodgates opened in a pulsating second half.

Subiaco player-manager Ian McMurray was delighted with how his side performed.

“We were very disappointed with our performance last week, so I asked for a reaction and got it today,” he said.

“I said to them at half time that I know we’ve got more to give and we came out and scored some good goals.

“Staying in the NPL is very important to us, but we want to do it the right way. We want to play a bit of football and I thought today we went about our business very well.”

The win lifted Subiaco to 11th place on the 14-team table, while Joondalup stayed sixth.

Joondalup United coach Nick Jennings said his side weren’t committed enough on the day and failed to match Subiaco’s intensity.

“We didn’t show up at all today, from the first minute to the last, we were never at the races,” he said.

"I challenged the boys to win as many of the last 10 as we could, but today we were beaten fair and square.”

In other round 17 action on Saturday, Mandurah City celebrated a 1-0 victory over nine-man Stirling Lions at Securitas Protect Stadium and Floreat Athena were knocked from top spot on the league ladder after a 1-1 draw with Cockburn City at Dalmatinac Park.

Inglewood United went to the top of the table with a hard-fought 2-1 win over ECU Joondalup at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium, Balcatta and Perth Glory shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Grindleford Reserve, while Sorrento and Armadale fought a goalless draw at Percy Doyle Reserve.

On Sunday, Perth SC overcame rivals Bayswater City with a 3-1 win at Dorrien Gardens.
