PS4 NPL Tasmania Round 7 Review

A dominant second half from the Devonport Strikers has seen them move to the top of the PlayStation 4 NPL Tasmania table as they accounted for Clarence 5-0 at Wentworth Park.

Second half surge sends Strikers top

After a tightly fought first half that ended tied at 0-0, the Strikers blew the game open in the opening minutes of the second half and from there they didn’t look back, going on to record an emphatic victory.

Clarence started the brighter of the two sides and were asking questions at the back in the early going with Jake Stuart looking lively down the left hand side. They nearly took the lead in the opening minutes when Henry Andrews nearly put one into the back of his own net with an errant header, only for Zaikos to make a brilliant diving one handed save.

Brilliant Benny fires Lions to breakthrough win

There’s a saying in football “you have to take your chances” and nothing truer could be said about Kingborough Lions first win in the PS4 NPL TAS for 2017.  Benny Kovadio clearly wasn’t in Western Australia as we were lead to believe but rather jinking past Northern Rangers players as he scored the match winner to gain the Lions 3 valuable points.

The opening twenty minutes saw Rangers on the front foot and looking to atone for their previous 1-0 defeat to Nelson.  The northerners were positive with their ball movement and looked to pin back the lions in their own half.

South dish out another Darcy Street drubbing

It was a familiar story at Darcy Street on Sunday afternoon as South Hobart produced another thumping victory. This time they easily accounted for Launceston City 7-1 despite playing over half the game with 10 men after Ben Hamlett’s dismissal. It was all one way traffic as a slick South Hobart outfit put on a fine show for their home supporters.

The warning signs were there early as South knocked the ball around with purpose and style. David Smith made a sharp save to deny Hamlett in the early minutes before Hamlett turned provider and set one up for Caleb Ludlow to smash home on 17 minutes.

Warriors and Zebras play out ANZAC Day stalemate

Olympia FC Warriors drew 1-1 with the Hobart Zebras in their ANZAC Day clash at Warrior Park. In a game that should have had a winner on the sheer amount of good chances both sides had, the teams ultimately had to settle on a share of the points.

It was a tense opening half with both teams having numerous good chances to score. In the 9th minute, Warren Wadawu controlled a long ball on his head, looping it over Jayden Hey before heading into the ground and then unleashing a powerful drive into the left hand post.
