PS4 NPL Tasmania Round 14 Review

South Hobart moved to the top of the PlayStation 4 NPL Tasmania league ladder following a well earned 3-0 win over Devonport Strikers at Darcy Street.

South to the summit after 3-0 win

The opening half was a dour affair with neither team finding a great foothold on the game amongst a frenetic press and defensive effort. South Hobart probably shaded possession in the opening half but it was the Strikers that had the best couple of chances for the half.

Brayden Mann came close to opening the scoring 10 minutes into the contest from the Strikers first meaningful attack. A quick counter attack led to Mann firing from the top of the box for the top corner but Kieran Brown did supebrly to tip it over the bar.

South were enjoying more of the ball but they couldn’t generate a clear scoring chance, which Devonport conjured up just before half time when Brown again denied Bidwell.

The second half was a completely different story as Nick Morton and Jack Turner ran riot in amongst a solid team performance by South Hobart.

In the 52nd minute it was 1-0 as Alex Walter drew three defenders and a missed clearance by the Strikers trickled into the path of Morton at the edge of the 18 yard box. Morton pounces and lashed a powerful low strike into the bottom left corner.

In the 74th minute it was 2-0. Morton was at it again with a quick one two with Turner. The ball, again at the edge of the 18 yard box, was met with stunning force by Morton who blasted his shot into the bottom left once more past the despairing Matt Zaikos.

Thannhauser fires Rangers past Zebras

Northern Rangers closed the gap to the top four with a hard fought 1-0 victory over a depleted Hobart Zebras side at the NTCA on Saturday evening. A week after missing the chance to win the game against the Lions, it was Harry Thannhauser who proved the hero, this time making no mistake with his strike 15 minutes from full time to settle the contest and hand Rangers their fourth win of the season.

Northern Rangers had set their hopes high against the determined Hobart Zebras side who were looking to consolidate fourth place. Both sides had several opportunities in front of goal early in the match but couldn’t seem to find the back of the net. It was a tough tussle at both attacking ends of the ground considering both teams defensive structures were very tight and difficult to penetrate.

Clarence dismantle Lions in comfortable win

Clarence United snapped their losing streak in emphatic fashion as they dismantled the Kingborough Lions and stormed to a 3-0 victory on Saturday night at Wentworth Park.

The hosts struck hard early, jumping the Lions to be ahead 2-0 after just 10 minutes of play and from there they never looked like being caught, as they claimed a valuable three points to move off the foot of the table after 14 rounds.

Sklenar shines as Warriors smash City

Jakub Sklenar scored four times in the space of 7 minutes in the first half to send the Olympia Warriors on their way to a comprehensive 8-1 win over Launceston City. The Czech striker was a cut above as it all unraveled for City, who went down to 10 men in the second half and were overrun in a largely one sided game.

After a pretty tightly fought opening twenty minutes where City looked very organised at the back and like they would be hard to break down, it was Sklenar who got things started racing in behind and showing great composure to wait for the keeper to move before curling a perfect shot into the far corner of the net.
