Just one more to be decided

The makeup of clubs who will compete in the 2014 NPL Finals Series is almost finalised with all but one of the eight teams confirmed.

Coming into its second edition after a successful launch last year, the NPL Finals Series pits the eight clubs who finished Premiers of their respective Member Federations in a Champions League type finale to determine the NPL Champions.

The clubs to have booked their place include Weston Workers (Northern NSW football), Cooma Tigers (Capital Football), MetroStars SC (Football Federation South Australia), Bonnyrigg White Eagles (Football NSW), Palm Beach Sharks (Football Queensland), Bayswater City (Football West), and last year’s runner up South Hobart (Football federation Tasmania).

This leaves only the entrant from Football Federation Victoria still to be decided. South Melbourne currently sit in the box seat seven points clear of second placed Oakleigh Cannons and need just a point from their last two matches, one of which is against the Cannons on Sunday 7 September in the penultimate round, to be crowned Premiers and earn their spot in the NPL Finals Series.

The format of the NPL Finals Series sees the Member Federations coupled based on geographic location and each year, the host Federation for the Elimination Finals will alternate to provide all federations the opportunity to host.

As such, this year the Elimination Finals will see Weston Workers host Palm Beach Sharks, Comma Tigers at home to Bonnyrigg White Eagles, MetroStars SC make the trip west to take on Bayswater City, and South Hobart up against the FFV Premiers in Tasmania.

The four Elimination Finals will be played on the weekend of September 20 and 21, the two Semi Finals the following weekend culminating in the Grand Final on either October 4 or 5.
