Young Sky Blues focused on big season ahead

Sydney FC’s National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s coach Jimmy Van Weeren has made no changes to his 2021 player roster as his young Sky Blues chargers hope to make a first time run into this year’s Finals Series with the new season kicking off next month.

The rising young coach has managed to retain many of his 2020 squad members including last year’s top NPL NSW Men’s competition goalscorer Patrick Wood who finished up with 11 goals as well as Jordi Swibel, Callum Talbot and Calem Nieuwenhof all of which have made first team appearances in Steve Corica’s A-League side this year.

Nieuwenhof and Wood have already made huge impacts in the A-League both notching up goals addressing themselves as future Sky Blues senior stars.

“We have no new recruits in 2021, all of our players are either retained or promoted from our younger age groups within the Academy program," he told nplnsw.com.au

“We are a young squad, as always, but we have some very exciting young talents.

“We will have many young boys making their breakout season in the Youth Team and in the senior Men’s Competition.

“We are aiming to be competitive in every match this season.

“We know the level of competition we are up against and we are excited about the significant weekly challenge and look forward to seeing what these young players can produce.”

The 2020 season saw Van Weeren’s side finish fifth on the ladder.

His young squad were praised for playing a quality brand of football which will no doubt put them in good stead against better opposition this year.

The Sky Blues have signed Levi Kaye, Adam Pavlesic, Mateo Scali, Cameron Fong, Scott Browning, Aaron Gurd, Nathan Grimaldi, Anton Mlinaric, Stevan Stanic-Floody, Joe Calusic, Jayden Trenkoski, Thomas Main, Patrick Yazbek, Oscar Priestman, Jake Girdwood-Reich, Thomas Fay, Adrian Segecic, Adian Simmons, Jaiden Kucharski, Antonio Saracino, Aiden Mostofi and Clayton Taylor all of which will look towards making a huge impact on the NPL NSW Men’s competition this year.

Sydney FC’s opening round 1 match will be a tasty fixture against the Marconi Stallions on Friday 26th of February at Marconi Stadium.
