WNPLSA Round Ten Preview

Adelaide City vs Football SA NTC
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Friday 25 June 6:15 PM

City and NTC kick off Round 10 of WNPL action tonight at VALO Football Centre separated by just two points and with both firmly eyeing off a spot in the top four.

A 1-0 victory over Uni marked the first time this season that City have recorded back-to-back wins this season and now sit one place and two points outside of the coveted finals spots after a difficult start to the year.

NTC were denied victory in heartbreaking fashion last weekend as high-flyers Inter netted an injury-time equaliser to ensure the spoils were shared at 2-2 and will now be wary of their buffer over City potentially negated by their opponents’ game in hand.

It’s a big three points up for grabs tonight between two sides who have high ceilings, so the outcome of this contest should be a fascinating one.

Metro United vs West Adelaide
Venue: TK Shutter Reserve
Date: Friday 25 June 8:15 PM

The reigning champions take on the current ladder leaders in a match that promises to be a spectacle for the neutral tonight at TK Shutter Reserve.

Metro let a two-goal slip inside the last five minutes, as Comets scored twice late to snatch a point and deny their opponents what was set to be a certain win, denying tonight’s hosts the chance to move up to third on the ladder.

West, meanwhile, continued their imperious form with a 5-0 hammering of last-placed Fulham United and extended their lead at the top of the table to four points thanks to other results going their way.

With seven wins and just one loss to start the season, West are the hottest prospect in the competition right now, so Metro will know that they have a tough assignment on their hands to come away with a result tonight.

Adelaide University vs Adelaide Comets
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Friday 25 June 8:15 PM

The final fixture tonight sees Uni and Comets face-off, a fixture between two sides who have struggled to keep pace with the rest of the competition in the early stages of the season.

One point from their last four matches, with a 1-0 loss to City their most recent defeat, has seen Uni remain at the wrong end of the table, but they crucially sit just one point behind their opponents tonight.

Comets snatched a point from the jaws of defeat last weekend against Metro, with skipper Valeria Guajardo’s strikes in the 87th and 89th minutes earning her side a dramatic 2-2 draw, a result that keeps them within four points of City in fifth.

Both sides will be desperate to seize the opportunity to taste victory tonight, with Uni hoping to end their dry spell and Comets aiming to continue their promising form.

Fulham United vs Salisbury Inter
Venue: Adelaide Shores Football Centre
Date: Saturday 26 June 5:00 PM

The sole Saturday kick-off sees strugglers Fulham take on a powerhouse Inter outfit who, despite their league position, haven’t set the world on fire in the past four weeks.

A heavy 5-0 defeat at the hands of table-toppers West kept Fulham at arm’s length from the rest of the competition, as they remain on the hunt for their first league win of 2021 with just two points to their name.

Inter snatched a point from NTC last weekend with a late equaliser in their 2-2 draw, but it was their third outing without victory in their last four contests, a run that has seen West increase their points buffer at the top.

A visit from Inter represents one of the most difficult tests in women’s football at the moment, but Fulham will be hoping to get a win on the board tomorrow off the back of a disappointing display last weekend.

Fulham United line-up: 1. Natalie Hayman (GK), 2. Charlotte Waters, 3. Susan Roberts, 4. Natasha Vella (C), 5. Olivia Bramley, 6. Josephine Trimboli, 7. Siobhan Eastham, 8. Laura Niejalke, 9.
