WNPLSA Round 12 Preview

Salisbury Inter vs Adelaide City
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Friday 16 July 6:15 PM

Round 12 of WNPL action kicks off tonight with a blockbuster contest between two of the league’s powerhouses, as second-placed Inter take on third-placed City.

Inter were clinical last weekend as they hit Comets for six, with a brace from Cote Rojas and goals from Nicole Calder, Chantelle Ryder, Dragana Kljajic and Emily Condon sealing a 6-1 win and keeping the pressure on West at the top.

City also rippled the net on six occasions in their 6-0 thrashing of cellar-dwellers Fulham, with a curling left-foot strike across the keeper and a free-kick into the bottom corner on the edge of the box the highlights of Chelsie Dawber’s four-goal haul.

With City now boasting a run of four straight wins and Inter netting 11 goals in their last two outings, tonight’s tantalising encounter could be a preview of things to come at the pointy end of the season.

Adelaide Comets vs West Adelaide
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Friday 16 July 8:15 PM

There are few assignments as tough right now as this West outfit, who have hardly put a foot wrong so far this season, so Comets will be aiming to pull off a major scalp tonight.

Comets were handed a crushing 6-1 defeat last weekend by Inter, which kept them five points outside the top four whilst dealing a hammer blow to their goal difference (-17), with Fulham the only side sitting on a lower differential.

West kept hold of top spot for another week with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Uni, with Nicole Tilley’s stabbed strike from a tight angle, her seventh of the season, the pick of the goals on the night

A win for Comets would be massive for their finals hopes, while three points for West would see them entrench themselves in the top two thanks to their two closest rivals facing off in the early kick-off.

Fulham United vs Football SA NTC
Venue: Adelaide Shores Football Centre
Date: Saturday 17 July 3:00 PM

NTC’s form has hit a snag in recent weeks with four matches without victory and come up against a Fulham outfit desperate to get on the board in 2021.

Fulham were defeated by five goals or more for the third successive week, with a resurgent City proving too powerful to contain in a heavy 6-0 loss that kept them rooted to the bottom of the table.

NTC played out a rare 0-0 stalemate against Metro to keep them a point outside the top four, with a vital goal-line block by skipper Zoe Tolland preventing what appeared to be a certain goal and helping salvage a point.

It’s not too late for Fulham to make an impact this season, but the wins need to arrive sooner rather than later, while NTC will still be backing themselves in to claim a top four spot with just one point separating them and fourth-placed Metro.

Fulham United line-up: 1. Natalie Hayman (GK), 2. Charlotte Waters, 3. Susan Roberts, 4. Natasha Vella (C), 5. Olivia Bramley, 6. Josephine Trimboli, 7. Siobhan Eastham, 8. Laura Niejalke, 9. Angela Mills, 10. Amielia Ebbs, 11. Hannah Doyle, 16. Caitlin Le Roux, 17. Mia Lundquist

Metro United vs Adelaide University
Venue: TK Shutter Reserve
Date: Saturday 17 July 5:15 PM

The home side managed to cling onto a spot in the top half last weekend and will be hoping to do so once again tomorrow night as they take on Uni.

Metro were unable to break down NTC in their match that finished 0-0, with the draw seeing them maintain a slender one-point buffer in the top half but falling five points behind the side immediately above them in City.

Uni’s lean stretch continued last weekend as they fell to a 3-0 defeat to ladder leaders West, marking their fifth consecutive match without finding the back of the net, claiming only one point in that time.

NTC are breathing down Metro’s neck, so they know they have to keep them at arm’s length to maintain their position, while Uni know that they can reel in some of the sides above them if they can hit a purple patch.

Metro United WFC line-up: 1. Melanie Comyns (GK), 3. Emma Cotgrove, 4. Talia Bilardo, 6. Laura Stockdale, 7. Millie Scott, 9. Roxanne Dodd, 11. Lauren Steer, 12. Rochelle Draper, 13. Vanessa Reed (C), 17. Victoria Mansueto, 18. Isabella Scalzi, 20. Chanel Todino, 23. Kristy Moore, 26. Michaela Hadaj, 27. Amber-May Smith, 29. Jessica Signoriello, 99. Olivia Bunge (GK)
