Tarrawanna 'Chipper' with new signing

Former Socceroo Scott Chipperfield has received his clearance and will make the first of several appearances for Tarrawanna on Saturday.

Former Socceroo Scott Chipperfield has received his clearance and will make the first of several appearances for Tarrawanna on Saturday.

Chipperfield, 37, will come off the bench for his junior club at JJ Kelly Park, where they take on the Coniston Lions in the Illawarra Mercury Premier League.

A calf strain is stopping Chipperfield from starting, but the club are hopeful he will shine when officially unveiled at home against South Coast United on June 30.

Chipperfield played for Tarrawanna in the under-19s and was in the grand final-winning team 20 years ago.

"I just want to keep playing, keep my fitness up. I have a lot of family and friends here. They want to come down and watch," Chipperfield said.

"Obviously it's still a competition so I want to win. The team is doing really well. We're in the semi-final of the cup down here also so I'm looking forward to that also and hopefully get a final."

His clearance from the Swiss FA finally came through on Thursday night, but the calf injury means he will be reduced to a cameo appearance.

"I had physio (on Friday morning). He said probably 20-30 minutes maximum will be OK," Chipperfield said.

"It's a fatigue thing, with the long flight as well, flared it up a bit. Hopefully it's 100 percent for next week."

The June 30 clash against South Coast is expected to draw a crowd of close to 2,000, while Chipperfield has also returned in time for the club's 100-year celebration on July 20.

He should play at least five games for Tarrawanna, including a potential appearance in the Railcon Bert Bampton Cup semi-finals.

Tarrawanna team manager Bill Glancy said the response to Chipperfield's return had been 'amazing'.

"For a reasonably small club, we've probably got the biggest following and supporters in local football, there's a real buzz in town," he said.

"We're getting inundated with a lot of calls."

Tarrawanna need to wait until the end of the month to see the former Basel star in action at home, but he has already made an impact.
