Brisbane Strikers stormed into top spot on the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland table after overpowering Brisbane Roar Youth 5-1 at Perry Park on Saturday night.

Patrick Theodore cancelled out Michael Angus’ opener but it was all Strikers from there as Kevin A’Herne-Evans’ side proved their title credentials.

Young Roar coach John Sime was disappointed with his team’s sloppiness in defence that resulted in their first defeat of the campaign.

“We came up against a team that pressed us very high up the park … and we struggled to handle that,” Sime said.

Alex Smith starred with a hat-trick as FNQ Heat breezed to a 5-0 win over SWQ Thunder at Stratford Soccer Club on Saturday night.

Last season’s Semi Finalists led 2-0 at half time before piling on a further three after the restart to secure their second win of the season.

Speaking after the match, Heat coach Martin Docherty believed the performance and result was near perfect.

“If I have any disappointments it’s the fact we didn’t put another three or four in, but 5-0 anyone would be happy with any day,” Docherty said.
