South Hobart made a statement of intent for their Victory League title defence, emphatically thrashing Glenorchy Knights 8-1.

Glenorchy Knights started sharply in the opening 10 minutes but when Brayden Mann netted for South Hobart in the 14th minute it started a South Hobart onslaught that saw the reigning champions run away with a huge first round victory.

The strike force of Brayden Mann and Andy Brennan proved to be clinical, with both players hitting hattricks in their first Victory League outings for the club. Nick Morton was also impressive with two goals to add to the lethal output from South Hobart's pairing up top.

It was a tough night for Knights Captain Shae Hickey, who was on the wrong end of a South Hobart smashing for the first time. The Knights claimed a consolation goal late in the affair after eight had gone past them at the other end, youngster Aaron Wilson provided some dash off the bench and finished their solitary goal from the spot but ultimately it was a poor night for the Knights as South Hobart stamped their 2014 title credentials on the competition.
