RAA NPLSA Round Eleven Preivew

Adelaide City vs Croydon FC
Venue: Adelaide City Park
Date: Saturday 3 July 3:00 PM

The current ladder leaders take on a side currently sitting point away from safety, as in-form City host a Croydon side with a point to prove after a disappointing result last weekend.

City were at their clinical best last weekend, running out 3-0 winners over an in-form South Adelaide side to earn their third win in four matches and ensure they keep a hold on top spot as we reach the half-way mark of the season.

Croydon, meanwhile, were held to a 2-2 draw by rock-bottom Blue Eagles, as Patrick Caraccia’s cool finish through the legs of a defender and into the bottom corner wasn’t enough to claim all three points.

City will be hungry to keep hold of top spot on the ladder for as long as they can, while Croydon won’t want to waste an opportunity to move out of the bottom two.

Adelaide Croatia Raiders vs MetroStars
Venue: Croatian Sports Centre
Date: Saturday 3 July 3:00 PM

MetroStars pay a visit to the Croatian Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon in the hope of picking up another win, a result which the hosts will be just as eager to claim.

Raiders were unable to get past Campbelltown away from home last weekend, slumping to a 3-1 defeat despite a sensational long-range strike by Harley Gepp that drew them level just after half-time.

MetroStars picked up their fourth win in their last five matches, a run which also contains four clean sheets, as they beat Olympic 2-0, with Joshua Mori’s burst of pace through the defence allowing him to ice the contest in injury time.

With just one win in their last six, Raiders still remain within a win of the top six, but a MetroStars side on the charge up the table presents itself as a tricky prospect.

Adelaide Blue Eagles vs Campbelltown City
Venue: Marden Sports Complex
Date: Saturday 3 July 3:00 PM

Blue Eagles host Campbelltown at Marden Sports Complex in a match that pits this one of season’s strugglers against the reigning champions who continue to find their feet.

The hosts picked up their second point of the season in their 2-2 draw with Croydon, with Yohei Matsumoto’s lobbed header over the keeper cancelling out their opponents’ late goal and avoiding defeat at the death.

Campbelltown rebounded from a disappointing loss to Croydon with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Raiders, as a fantastic first-time curler into the bottom corner by Adam Piscioneri sealed all three points.

The visitors present as daunting a prospect as any in the league, so it’ll take a big effort from Blue Eagles to break through and register their first win of 2021.

Adelaide United vs Cumberland United
Venue: Summit Sport and Recreation Park
Date: Saturday 3 July 3:00PM

The Young Reds welcome Cumberland for Mount Barker’s Saturday at the Summit between two clubs desperate to arrest indifferent form in their push to play finals football.

United were unable to get past Comets last weekend, falling to a 3-2 defeat despite fine finishes by young talents Jonny Yull and Binyam Kebede, a result which now marks four matches without victory.

It was another tough result to stomach for Cumberland with a 3-0 loss to Sturt at home condemning them to a third defeat in four matches, a run of results which has seen them score just twice and concede 13 times.

With neither side enjoying a fruitful last five weeks or so on the pitch, Saturday at the Summit presents both with the opportunity to claim all three points and continue to press their claims as finals contenders.

Adelaide United FC line-up: Fergus Lynch, Musa Toure, 14. Binyam Kebede, 17. Mohamed Toure, 19. Yaya Dukuly, 37. Jonny Yull, 40. Ethan Cox (GK), 44. Arbi Mollas, 49. Keshav Shrestha, 53. Noah Mcnamara, 55. Ethan Alagich, 57. Adam Leombruno

Sturt Lions vs South Adelaide
Venue: West Beach Parks Football Centre
Date: Saturday 3 July 3:00 PM

The two sides promoted to the NPL at the end of last season finally clash in 2021 as State League One’s champions host the premiers on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions returned to winning ways in emphatic style on the weekend, an impressive 3-0 win away from home over Cumberland which ended their four-match barren run of results and pushes them further from the drop zone.

South suffered the opposite of their opponents’ fortunes, a 3-0 home defeat to City ending an impressive run of results and seeing them lose some ground on the sides at the top of the table.

With ninth-placed Sturt now just two points behind fourth-placed South, this match has plenty of potential to shake up the league table on its own and is sure to be an entertaining one.

Sturt Lions line-up: Oliver Sigley, Anthony Taylor, Tom van der Hoeven, Toby Nelson, Daniel Snobl, Jasper Donovan, Taine Harding, Cale Nagle, Bradley Davey, 1. James Klappers (GK), 3. Adelaide Olympic vs Adelaide Comets
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Saturday 3 July 6:00 PM

The late kick-off for Round 11 of NPL pits Olympic against Comets under lights at VALO Football Centre in a match that both sides will be desperate to win for different reasons.

Olympic suffered their first defeat in eight matches last weekend in their 2-0 loss to MetroStars, ending the league’s longest unbeaten run but, curiously, drawing them just a point above 11th-placed Croydon.

Comets picked up an important 3-2 win over United last weekend, highlighted by brilliant one-touch football between Allan Welsh, Anthony Mavrolambados and the scorer Jaiden Diamantis, to open their account on the night.

As they sit perilously above the relegation zone, Olympic will be keen to put distance between themselves and the foot of the table, but Comets know they need every point they can get as they jostle with City for top spot.

Adelaide Olympic line-up: Michael Cittadini, 1. Lewis Moss (GK), 3. Paul Wilson, 4. Benkert Abdija, 7. Jacob Jones, 8. Jason Konstandopoulos, 9. Christos Pounendis, 10. Hirofumi Kochi, 11.
