PS4 NPL WA Round 6 Preview

Joondalup United will be looking to score their third win of the season when they meet Cockburn City at Percy Doyle Reserve in Round 6 of PlayStation 4 NPL WA.

BATTLE FOR POINTS AS PS4 NPLWA ROUND SIX KICKS OFF

After a slow start to the season, United have won their past two matches and are 5th on the league ladder, two points behind 4th-placed Cockburn.

Recent form has buoyed United coach Nick Jennings, who is looking for his side to conjure a repeat performance after last week’s 3-1 victory over Balcatta.

“I think this will be our hardest game so far this season,” he said. “I’ve watched Cockburn a few times and they have a lot of quality.

“Our team is growing as a unit and we’re at full strength, so I’m confident. They’re a very good attacking force… but after last week we’re rock solid, so we want to repeat that.

“We always cause teams problems going forward so we will concentrate on that.”

Cockburn coach Scott Miller will look to his side to maintain the consistency that has generated three wins and a draw from five matches.

“Joondalup United coach Nick Jennings said his team kissed the badge and they play for the shirt,” Miller said. “You combine that with the quality they’ve got (and) they’re proving they are very hard to break down and get on top of.”

“They attack in numbers, defend in numbers and they have some very good footballers there.

"We don’t have a big team so I think Euen Grant, our captain, will be a key player for us this week in controlling the defence, as well as Cameron  Edwards, Calvin Whitney and Gian Albano. Luke Radonich will need to stay on his toes in goals.”

In other games on Saturday, league leaders Perth SC entertain Armadale at Dorrien Gardens, ECU Joondalup host Sorrento at ECU Joondalup Football Stadium, Balcatta take on Subiaco at Grindleford Reserve and Mandurah City face Perth Glory at Kelly’s Hot Water Community Stadium.

On Sunday, Bayswater City will be looking to fire-up their season against Floreat Athena at Finance 365 Stadium, while Stirling Lions face Inglewood United at Macedonia Park.
