PS4 NPL WA Round 4 Preview

Bayswater City coach Chris Coyne has urged his players to kick-start their PlayStation 4 NPL WA season against arch rivals Perth SC at Finance 365 Stadium on Saturday.

Bayswater, who won the QBE Night Series just last month, have only one point from three games this season, while league leaders Perth have made a perfect start to the season with three victories.

Coyne said last week’s loss at Cockburn was disappointing and his players were looking to make amends.

“You get what you deserve in football and Cockburn were deserved winners,” he said. “Yes we had plenty of possession, but I can’t remember their keeper making a save, so possession doesn’t win games.

“We have to start somewhere and there is no better opposition to do it against than our arch rivals. The boys have trained hard and are ready to have a good go this weekend.”

Perth SC skipper Clark Keltie said his team were ticking along nicely especially after last week’s win over Floreat Athena - and would relish taking on Bayswater this weekend.

“I was really pleased with last week’s result and I thought we played some decent football,” he said. “I don’t think we are at our best yet, but nine points from three games is very positive.

“Saturday is a big game for both clubs, and one which will give both sides a good indication of where they are at. I’m looking forward to another solid performance and ultimately three points.”

ECU Joondalup will be looking for their first win of the season when they entertain Inglewood United at ECU Football Stadium on Saturday.

Their 2016 PS4 NPLWA joint top goalscorer Gordon Smith said the players were working hard to turn around their season.

“The boys are looking forward to the game, the training has been up-beat and there's been a buzz around the player group,” he said.

“Of course we are disappointed with the slow start but that's behind us. We are only focused on our next opponent.

“Inglewood will be strong, as they were last season, so we will need to be on our game to get the three points.”

The round kicks off on Friday evening as Joondalup United host Subiaco at Percy Doyle Reserve with both sides also looking for their first wins of the season.

In other matches this weekend, Armadale hosts the unbeaten Sorrento at Alfred Skeet Reserve, while Mandurah City travels to Macedonia Park to take on Stirling Lions.

Balcatta, who will be buoyed by last week’s first win of the season against Armadale, travel to Ashfield Reserve to take on Perth Glory, while the unbeaten Cockburn City heads to E&D Litis Stadium on Saturday evening where they will take on hosts Floreat Athena to round off a great weekend of football.
