PS4 NPL WA Round 21 Review

Inglewood United kept their title fight alive with a 2-0 upset of rival contenders Perth SC in Round 21 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues WA at Dorrien Gardens.

Goals to Ash Rosindale and Callum O’Connell were enough to decide a tense encounter where both sides had everything at stake.

A win for Perth would have seen them secure the title with a week to spare, while Inglewood came in looking to wrestle back top spot and push the overall race all the way to the finish line.

Inglewood coach Taki Nicolaidis, who previously led Perth to second place on the league standings in both 2014 and 2015, said he was amazed by the character of his playing group.

“We as coaching staff put bits and pieces together but ultimately, at the end of the day, the character of that group is amazing,” he said.

“We’ve won a game and we’re back on top but we’ve won nothing yet. We’ll celebrate the win as we do every game but as of tomorrow it is full focus and planning from a coaching point of view.

“We’ve always got that will and want, and today we stepped up.”

A 10-man Floreat Athena pulled off a stunning come-from-behind 2-1 win to leave Bayswater City’s hopes of playing in The West Australian Top Four Cup hanging by a thread.

The loss for City, who won the league by 10 points last season, put them in fifth place, on 35 points, with just one match to play.

ECU Joondalup moved into fourth spot after a 3-1 win against Cockburn City at the ECU Football Stadium. The win put the Jacks in pole position for a Top Four finish.

Armadale took advantage of their recent run of form to triumph 2-1 over Stirling Lions at Macedonia Park. Armadale, who have won their last six games, are safe from possible relegation, moving four points clear of last-placed Subiaco.

Sorrento’s Top Four finals hopes are still alive after defeating Subiaco 2-1 at Rosalie Park. The win means Sorrento, who have a game in hand, join Bayswater City on 35 points.

Perth Glory laid to rest any lingering fears of finishing at the foot of the table following a convincing display at Grindleford Reserve, with star-man Kosta Petratos striking a double to down Balcatta.
