Rain seals draw for ECU and Floreat

ECU Joondalup and Floreat Athena ended their battle in a 2-2 stalemate after the game was abandoned in the 63rd minute due to heavy rain at ECU Joondalup Football Stadium on Saturday.

Gordon Smith’s penalty conversion put ECU ahead in the 4th minute while Tommy Amphlett doubled their score in the 28th.

Floreat, who face Cockburn City in the Cool Ridge Cup final on July 23, hit back with Ludovic Boi scoring in first-half injury time before Lewis McMahon converted the game’s second penalty just two minutes after the break.

The result will stand after more than half the game was played.

Sorrento and Cockburn City match abandoned

Sorrento and Cockburn City will replay their Round 17 fixture after the match was abandoned in the 25th minute due to unplayable pitch conditions.

The weather was poor before kick-off with steady rain falling. Cockburn, who face Floreat Athena in the Cool Ridge Cup final on July 23, took an early lead after a quick pass from Angel Andres found teammate Aiden De Luz, who fired home.

Sorrento had an opportunity to equalise through Alex Morgan's chip but Cockburn goalkeeper Luke Radonich stood his ground to keep his team in front.

But as the pitch condition deteriorated, referee Michal Jasinski called off the contest.

 

Perth move into second after Balcatta blitz

Perth came from behind to beat Balcatta 4-1 after a dominant second-half performance at Dorrien Gardens on Saturday.

A scrappy first half was lit up by a screamer from Jonathan Corness but it was one-way traffic after the break as the hosts took control.

Tom King scored sensationally from a free kick before Gustavo Catarcione and Dino Topcagic added quick goals to effectively kill off the game.

Subiaco record first clean sheet

Subiaco secured their third win of the season with a comprehensive 2-0 win over ladder rivals Perth Glory on Saturday afternoon at Rosalie Park.

Ian McMurray was on target in the first half before Michael Lawson doubled the lead in the second.
