PS4 NPL WA Round 14 Review

An explosive first and last 10 minutes saw Inglewood United defeat neighbouring Bayswater City 4-1 in a tense PlayStation 4 NPL WA encounter at Finance 365 Stadium.

Bayswater custodian Devon Spence was sent off in the second minute for a rash challenge on Brian Woodall, leaving the home side with 10 men for the remaining 88 minutes.

A brace from Alex Salmon, along with a goal each to Ash Rosindale and debutant Feisal Zaw, ensured Inglewood maintained their unbeaten record against Bayswater in the last two PS4 NPLWA seasons.

Chants of “who needs Mourinho when you’ve got (Andy) Keogh” roared from the visiting change rooms post-match, and the Perth Glory striker, who is Inglewood’s coach, was delighted with the result.

“The lads have been working hard in training, they’ve been really concentrating on the tactical side of things and I think it has shown today,” Keogh said.

“Our substitutions proved the difference today, with our new addition Feisal Zaw coming on and Adam Tong securing things at the back for a deserved win.”

Bayswater coach Chris Coyne said he took plenty of positives out of the game despite a late blow out.

“I pushed bodies forward so that is my fault, but the boys were magnificent,” he said.

“When you feel you’re being hard done by it doesn’t rub well, but I’m proud of the players and I’d be proud to go in the trenches with them.

“We are all gutted in there, but at the end of the day there is a lot to learn from that and a lot of positives to take out of it.”

The result sees Inglewood rise two places on the league table to fourth, while Bayswater fall two places to fifth.

In the upset of the round, Stirling Lions defeated Floreat Athena 1-0 to knock Floreat from the top of the table to third place.

Sorrento now sits in first place, two points clear of Perth SC, after two second half goals from striker Scott Bulloch ensured they came away with a solid 3-0 win over Balcatta at Grindleford Reserve.

Perth SC had a convincing 5-0 away win against Mandurah City, while Cockburn ended a 5-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Subiaco at Rosalie Park.

Joondalup United and ECU Joondalup each took a point after a 2-2 draw at ECU Joondalup Stadium on Saturday in a local derby, while Perth Glory and Armadale drew 0-0 at Ashfield Arena.
