PS4 NPL Tasmania Round 16 Review

A clinical Hobart JEEP Zebras produced one of their best performances of the season to crush the Kingborough Lions 4-1 and move within two points of Devonport in top spot.

Warriors hit Rangers for six at NTCA

Olympia Warriors got back to winning ways in convincing fashion, running out 6-0 winners over Northern Rangers at the NTCA.  Warren Wadawu secured a brace in the first half while Nicholas Zammit scored a superb long range shot on his debut off of the bench as the Warrior comfortably accounted for last placed Rangers.

Luigi Cordova started back in goals for Rangers with Wes Chugg in reserve while Olympia opted to give a full debut to Jairus Lesek, a starting debut to Mark Ortmann and for Zammit to make his first appearance on the bench at this level.

South and Port share spoils to open up the title race

South Hobart and the Devonport Strikers split the points today in an entertaining clash between two teams with widely different styles of play. At the end of the game, the score was 1-1 and the Zebras rubbed their hands together with glee as they now have their title aspirations back in their own hands, with a chance to cut the gap to 2 points with a win over the Lions on Sunday.

In a game that was largely controlled by South Hobart, Devonport still maintained their record of having not conceded a goal to a South Hobart player this season, with South’s goal coming through Daniel Syson smashing one into his own net.

Late Heath header secures point for Reds

A late goal from Richard Heath, rising highest from a corner to bury a header earned Clarence a 2-2 draw with Launceston City at Wentworth Park on Saturday evening. City were made to rue a series of misses in a game they should have taken all three points from but Clarence’s fighting spirit was on display as they almost stole all 3 points in a game that came alive in the second half.

City started the brighter of the two sides and should have been ahead on four minutes after being awarded a penalty for a handball in the area. Isaac Degetto stepped up and hit a rather tame effort which Dyson saved with a minimum of fuss.

Zebras thump Lions to close gap to two points

The front three of McKeown, Walsh and Huigsloot ran riot, their pace and power overwhelming the Lions defence as Huigsloot hit a hat-trick and the Zebras had the game won by half time.

They took control of the game early and nearly took the lead twice in the opening 15 minutes if not for the woodwork. First Huigsloot crashed an effort into the post from close range before Walsh unleashed a pile driver from 25 yards which Grace did well to save. The rebound was nodded home by Huigsloot but he was off side and the Lions survived unscathed.
