PS4 NPL Tasmania Round 15 Review

The Kingborough Lions brushed aside mid table rival Launceston City 4-1 today at the Lion’s Den, Lightwood Park in a clinical performance.

Brennan brace guides South past Warriors

South Hobart proved far too clinical for Olympia FC Warriors this afternoon, winning 3-1 in a comprehensive performance. Jacob Brennan netted a brace, whilst Ben Hamlett netted a goal from the substitute bench on his return from injury. Olympia's had opened the scoring through the big Irishman Graham Glynn but that was as good as it got for them.

The opening ten minutes of this game were uneventful to say the least. Neither team could gain a foothold on the game as both teams struggled to find their rhythm. But the following ten minutes were anything but uneventful, with three goals coming, included two in one minute of play.

Lions maul City

Goals from Danny Cowen, Joel Schuth, Shane Cartwright and Tom Mcdonald sealed the win for the Lions, whilst the lone goal for City came from the boot of Aaron Campbell. The win closes the gap between the two sides on the table to just 3 points with six rounds to play.

The opening half was relatively even in terms of chances between the two teams, but where the Lions showed their dominance was in their ability to make something of their chances. City were wasteful in front of goal, taking shots from wide angles and at other times, completely miscued.

Strikers extend streak to 11 with win over Clarence

Two more stunning strikes from Brayden Mann, as well as goals from Joe Zupo and Joel Stone have powered the Devonport Strikers to their 11th league win in a row. The 4-0 victory sees the Strikers remain 4 points clear on top of the PS4 NPL TAS ladder coming in to the latter stages of the season.

The game started slowly for both teams with the majority of the play situated between the two 18 yard boxes. With neither team gaining a solid period of possession the first goal came from a set piece.

In the 14th minute, Brayden Mann’s corner, which appeared to be directed for Zupo, eluded everyone in the box before curling into the far corner of the net. The goal broke the shackles on the game as both team’s attacking flow improved.

Slow starting Zebras overwhelm Rangers in second half

Hobart JEEP Zebras overcame Northern Rangers with a dominant second half display, to run out 5-2 winners at the NTCA Ground in Round 15 action of the PS4 Tasmania NPL season. After an even first half in which both sides headed into the sheds with a goal apiece, the second half opened up with goals, drama and action aplenty. The final 20 minutes of the second half alone delivered 5 goals, 4 yellow cards and a penalty.

From the first minute of the game the Zebras looked to settle the quicker in terms of monopolising possession of the ball, and being patient in building their attacks, perhaps too patient. When the chain of Zebras passes would be cut off and the ball turned over there were large spaces in defence for the Rangers’ forwards to exploit.
