PS4 NPL Tasmania Round 13 Review

A dominant display from Shane Cartwright and some set piece brilliant from Chris Downes propelled the Kingborough Lions to a thumping 6-1 victory over Clarence United at Wentworth Park.

Five star Devonport extend lead atop the table

The Devonport Strikers extended their lead on top of the PS4 NPL TAS ladder with a comfortable 5-0 win against the Northern Rangers today at Valley Road. Devonport was the dominant team throughout the game and were never really challenged by their Northern rivals, thanks to a hat-trick from Miles Barnard and strikes from Brayden Mann and Brody Denehey.

The game started very slowly for both teams with the first real chance not coming till the eight minute mark. This chance proved to be the best the Rangers had all day, as Jorge Palacio almost opened the scoring with a fantastic header from a corner, which hit the right-hand side of the crossbar.

City hold firm to upset Warriors

Jarrod Linger scored the solitary goal of the game just before half time and Launceston City held on from there to snap a four game losing streak with a hard fought win 1-0 over the Olympia Warriors.  City had to fight every inch of the way to hold out against an aerial bombardment from the Warriors but on a heavy, slippery pitch they did just that.

The form of the two teams indicated that Olympia would continue their winning ways while City would again struggle to take points from a top four team but the match ebbed and flowed with the result on a knife-edge for much of the 90 minutes.

Lions hit Reds for six

Danny Cowen put them ahead just 27 seconds into the game and from there they never looked back, roaring to a massive victory to move back into sixth place in style.

Cowen set the tone for things to come when he scored in the opening minute of the game. From the Lions first attack Cartwright worked it to Cowen who raced in behind the Clarence back four and slotted home into the corner.
