PS4 NPL Tasmania Round 12 Review

The Devonport Strikers ground out a 2-1 victory at Olympia’s home ground to remain on top of the table after the latest round of PlayStation 4 NPL Tasmania.

Strikers stifle Warriors to stay top

In what was a strong team performance, the Strikers took the three points on offer to put six points between them and place a major dent in the Warriors title hopes.

All the pre-match focused on how the Strikers would cope without Tyler Fischer after his move to the Victorian NPL transpired. But it was business as usual for the Strikers who coach Chris Gallo has purring like a well oiled machine.

The Warriors struggled to get into the opening half with Devonport stifling them with a strong defensive effort. Their entire back line was nearly impenetrable. They were lead well by Raphael Reynolds and backed up by yet another strong performance from Matt Zaikos.

Turner too much for Rangers

South Hobart FC were made to work for their three points against a gritty and determined Northern Rangers side on Saturday evening at the NTCA. The Hobartians were slick in possession and on another day South may have put more on the scoreboard, but it wasn’t to be as the Rangers who had won their previous two matches did a good job pressing and harassing South.

The first ten minutes saw Ben Hamlett getting in behind the Rangers defence numerous times, but his final touch or turn seemed to take him away from goal.  The industrious Nick Morton was everywhere covering almost every blade of grass, on 27 minutes he drove a shot at Rangers keeper Sam Whatman, who at full range was able to push the ball around the post for a corner.

Clutch Kamara to the rescue as Lions hold City

Kingborough Lions had Sheku Kamara to thank as they travelled back down the Midlands Highway with a point from their clash against Launceston City that ended in a rare nil all draw in the PS4 NPL TAS competition.

Each side went into this game thinking they were every chance of getting a win and from the outset both teams attacked one another looking to gain an early advantage and keep themselves in the hunt for a top 6 finish come the end of the season.

Zebras too strong for Clarence

Hobart Zebras snapped their losing streak with a comfortable 3-0 win over Clarence at KGV on Sunday afternoon in the final game of Round 12. Clarence were in the contest early, but a gift of a goal just before half time seemed to sap their energy as the Zebras completely dominated the second 45.

The first 20 minutes was dominated by Clarence, they were doing the bulk of the attacking and putting pressure on the Zebras defence without forging too many prime scoring chances. The excellent Groenewold/Lewis pairing was doing a good job forcing them to try shots from range and the shot blocking was exemplary.
