PS4 NPL Tasmania Round 11 Review

A goal to Michael Holden shortly before half time was enough for the Devonport Strikers to claim a 1-0 victory on the road over the Hobart Zebras in Round 11 of PlayStation 4 NPL Tasmania.

Strikers edge Zebras to stay top

The result leaves the Strikers a game clear on top of the table and has effectively killed off the title hopes of Zebras as they now sit 10 points off the pace after 11 rounds.

The first chance fell to Jack Gates who tried to replicate his goal from an earlier game this season against the Strikers when he tried to dink a chip over Zaikos, who had learned his lesson it seemed and stayed up to make a key stop.

Disaster then struck when Chris Mckenna succumbed to an achillles injury that seems likely to end the career of on one of the greats. He has been a tremendous servant and it was a sad way to see an incredible career end.

Rangers derby delight

An 80th minute strike from Harry Thannhauser has seen Northern Rangers make it 2/2 in the Challenge Cup Derby in 2017 as they claimed a 2-1 win over Launceston City. Two goals in the space of a minute from Mitchell Jones and Isaac Degetto in the first half had the game in the balance at 1-1 until the ‘Town House’ settled the contest and saw Rangers move clear in fifth place on the table.

The first half was quite a tense and cagey affair with neither team gaining the ascendancy over the other for much of the half. City looked to build their attacks from the back, through the midfield and then usually a ball over the top to Degetto or Bartlett but their wayward passing and dwelling on the ball in dangerous areas continually left them exposed allowing Rangers to counter and release Nick LA at every opportunity early to get at the City full backs and cause them problems.
