PS4 NPL SA Round 20 Review

Adelaide Blue Eagles and MetroStars, two sides desperate for a win, put on a great display of football in wet wintry conditions.

Adelaide Blue Eagles vs. MetroStars

Missed chances by both teams to seal the contest, meant that on the final whistle Blue Eagles and MetroStars had to be content to share the points, in their Round 20 PlayStation 4 National Premier League match at Marden Sports Complex.

It was a day of reckoning for Blue Eagles as their future in the Premier League hung in the balance.

A must win, and nothing less, against their Eastern suburbs neighbour was the tall order of the day.

The Marden boys were up for the challenge, and were able to conjure a goal in the 74th minute that gave their supporters hope.

But the hope turned to despair when Metro levelled the scores in the 87th minute, and if not for some brilliant glove work by Blue Eagles keeper John Solari, the visitors could have easily stolen the maximum points at the death.

The match was played in ebbs and flows, with both teams having a good grasp of the game without taking control. Metro created some early chances that failed to hit the target.

With positions six through nine so hotly contested on the PS4 NPL ladder, Campbelltown City needed a win to give them a realistic shot of finishing in the top half come the season’s end, while Cumberland are bottom place and are guaranteed relegation.
