PS4 NPL Queensland Round 20 Review

Western Pride have secured their biggest ever win to remain in a Finals spot after defeating SWQ Thunder 8-1 at Briggs Road Sporting Complex.

Pride net biggest ever win

Mitchell Bird was instrumental in the win, netting a classy hat-trick, but was ably supported by Dan Hall and captain Jesse Rigby, who both scored their first senior goals.

Harrison Sawyer's departure several weeks ago had many wondering where the Pride goals would come from but Bird has rubbished any doubt, scoring eight goals in his past three appearances.

Pride face a potential Semi Final preview when they play ladder leaders Gold Coast City away next weekend, while Thunder host Moreton Bay United.

City secure vital win

Brisbane City netted a much needed 3-0 win over FNQ FC Heat at Callender Park on Saturday night to remain a point behind fourth spot.

City ran out of the blocks quicker, with Motoki Kakehi heading home from a set-piece before Nathan Bird scored the visitor's second just before the break.

City standout Samuel Sibatuara polished off the scoreline with a well placed shot just after the hour mark.

City travel to Redlands United next weekend, while Heat will aim to keep their improbable Finals hopes alive when they vist Sunshine Coast.

Strikers move top after tight win

Brisbane Strikers secured a tight 1-0 victory over Redlands United at Perry Park on Saturday night, courtesy of a Jeremy Stewart penalty.

Despite Redlands having the earlier chances, Strikers scored the first and only goal of the match after Stewart sent James Edgar the wrong way from the spot.

Another standout performance from Hiroki Omori ensured Strikers never surrendered the lead, taking top spot from Gold Coast City for at least 24 hours.

Strikers play Brisbane Roar Youth at home next weekend, while Redlands will look to rebound against Brisbane City.
