PS4 NPL NSW Round 15 Review

Wild weather added to the excitement in Round 15 of PlayStation®4 NPL NSW with all six matches providing fans with plenty to talk about.

Sydney United 58 stretched its lead at the top of the table to four points after Blacktown City dropped points to a plucky Parramatta FC.

There is a log jam in the middle of the table with four teams split by only four points.

The pressure is on as the finals edge closer and closer. Sydney United 58 hosted this week’s Match of the Round when they took on Rockdale City Suns at Sydney United Sports Centre on Sunday.

Match of the Round

Sydney United 58 3 - Rockdale City Suns 2 at Sydney United Sports Centre

Sydney United 58 has improved its PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Men’s premiership credentials with a gutsy 3-2 win against Rockdale City Suns at Sydney United Sports Centre.

First half strikes from Chris Payne and Masato Mochizuki helped establish a 3-1 first half lead for the home side in monsoonal weather conditions.

Dylan Macallister struck for the visitors from the penalty spot while an Aleks Canak goal in the second half gave Rockdale a sniff of a comeback.

However, United 58 held strong in an end to end match to stretch its lead at the top of the competition to four points.

Blacktown Spartans 0 - Wollongong Wolves 0 at Blacktown Football Park

It wasn’t a night for the fans at Blacktown Football Park with Blacktown Spartans and Wollongong Wolves playing out a dour 0-0 draw in their PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Men’s clash on Saturday night.

Neither side could hit the back of the net in a match which could’ve been the kick-start needed for a late finals run.

Wollongong goal keeper Justin Pasfield had a man of the match performance with the visitors holding off a determined, albeit wasteful, Blacktown attack.

Ben Tosi and Andre Carle were the stand out performers for Blacktown Spartans who go yet another round without a win.

Sydney Olympic FC 1 - Sutherland Sharks 2 at Belmore Sports Ground

Sutherland Sharks have kept their PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Men’s campaign alive with a 2-1 victory over Sydney Olympic at Belmore Sports Ground on Sunday.

The Sharks continued their recent run of form to notch the win despite atrocious conditions at Belmore with Nicholas Littler and Tomohiro Kajiyama’s goals cancelling out a goal to Olympic’s Harris Gaitatzis

Littler’s strike on the cusp of half time gave the visitors an unexpected lead at the break.

However, Sydney Olympic struck back only ten minutes into the second period of play thanks to a timely finish from Gaitatzis following a scrappy scramble in the box.

Sutherland would have the last laugh with Kajiyama slotting home the winner in the 58th minute.

Manly United FC 3 - Bonnyrigg White Eagles 3 at Cromer Park

MANLY United were left frustrated after their PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Men’s clash with Bonnyrigg finished in a 3-3 draw on Sunday afternoon at Cromer Park.

Goals to Dejan Pandurevic, Brendan Cholakian and Richie Cardozo had the home side on the cusp of victory until Robbie Younis’ 82nd minute strike denied Manly victory.

It was Younis’ second goal of the match while Aaron Peterson also scored for Bonnyrigg.

Manly, in fourth position, maintains its two point gap ahead of Bonnyrigg in fifth position.

Blacktown City FC 0 - Parramatta FC 1 at Lily’s Football Centre

Parramatta FC produced the shock of Round 15 of the PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Men’s Competition with a 1-0 win over Blacktown City at Lily’s Football Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The lone goal came to Parramatta captain Josh Symons in the 78th minute of the match which left Blacktown City hitting themselves after missing a host of chances throughout the match.

Mitch Mallia, Travis Major, Patrick Antelmi, Joey Gibbs and Danny Choi all had there opportunities to score but Luke Turnbull was in inspired form in the Parramatta goal.

Late lapses in defence opened the game for Parramatta who also had a goal denied for offside.

It is another untimely loss for Mark Crittenden’s Blacktown team who will need a near flawless run into the finals if they are to catch Sydney United 58 and win the PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Men’s competition premiership.

APIA Leichhardt Tigers 2 - Hakoah Sydney City East 3 at Lambert Park

A last-gasp winner from Nathan Bowden-Haase has given Mark Robertson’s side a thrilling 3-2 PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Men’s competition triumph over APIA Leichhardt Tigers at Lambert Park.

The Hakoah skipper fired a loose ball past APIA gloveman Ryan Norval in the final seconds of the match to edge the Tigers in a match played in significantly trying conditions with unrelenting rain leaving its mark on the Lambert Park surface and encounter.

It gave way to a chaotic opening ten minutes that saw Adrian Vranic open the scoring in the first sixty seconds, before APIA replied through Tasuku Sekiya.

Vranic struck his second midway through the second half to nudge Hakoah in the lead against the run of play only for Jordan Murray to restore parity from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining.

But there would be one final twist in the matches’ dying moments when Bowden-Haase capped a robust performance at the back with a crucial, rare goal that places the league newcomers within striking distance of the top six.
