PS4 NPL NNSW Review: Round 9

Weston Workers have prevailed in a tight tussle against Edgeworth in the PlayStation 4 NPL Northern NSW match of the round at Rockwell Automation Park.

Edgeworth FC dominated possession and field position in the first half and were unlucky not to score on several occasions thwarted by the crossbar, upright and the keeping of Weston’s Tim Pratt. In the second half both teams’ intensity lifted further. In the end it came down to some individual brilliance by Weston defender Carl Thornton who buried a header from long range after Nathan Morris found him with a pinpoint free kick. This ended up being the difference.

 

Newcastle Jets Youth 1 def. by Adamstown Rosebud FC 2

In an exciting clash Rosebud prevailed 2-1 after the Jets Youth took the lead in the 29th minute courtesy of Tom Waller. The Buds responded four minutes later through Gary Kenneth leaving the scores locked at one all at halftime. A fantastic volley by Nick Hills gave Adamstown a 2-1 lead which ended up as the fulltime score.

 

Charlestown City Blues 1 def. Broadmeadow Magic FC 0

In another close encounter over the weekend’s round, Charlestown City Blues caused an upset by defeating Magic 1-0. The game was ultimately decided from the penalty spot with Magic’s Peter Haynes missing an opportunity in 32nd minute of the first half before Ben Hughes converted for Charlestown in the 55th minute of the second half.

 

Maitland FC 1 def. by Hamilton Olympic FC 2

A further encounter that resulted in a one goal win. Maitland got the match off to a great start with a Ben Thompson penalty giving them an early lead in the 9th minute. Kane Goodchild then equalised from the spot in the 40th minute for the scores to be all tied up at halftime. In an even second half a 77th minute goal to Olympics Simon Mooney proved the difference.

 

South Cardiff FC 0 def. by Lambton Jaffas FC 5

In the only lopsided result from the weekend’s PS4 NPL fixtures Lambton Jaffas defeated an injury depleted South Cardiff outfit five nil. Goal scorers for the Jaffas were Luke Remington with a first half brace in the 1st and 25th minutes, followed by second half goals to John Majurovski in the 52nd minute, Alex Palozzi in the 59th and Michael Bridges in the 75th.
