PlayStation 4 NPL SA 2016 Season launched

The PlayStation 4 NPL South Australia 2016 Season was launched by Football Federation SA (FFSA) at the buzzing social hub, Henley Square at Henley Beach.

Round 1 kicks-off tonight (Friday 26 February), with the eagerly anticipated showdown between 2015 Champions West Adelaide and recently promoted side Adelaide Olympic.

Games continue across the weekend with an array of exciting match-ups to be seen, concluding with Adelaide United hosting Adelaide Blue Eagles at Elite Systems Football Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Footballers of all ages joined Club officials, invited guests and passers by for the interactive Season Launch that included a variety of activities for all to enjoy across the evening.

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia Marketing Manager Kendall Bascetta attended the launch and spoke of the recently announced and highly exciting PS4™ Player Pathway Award.

The inaugural PS4 Player Pathway Award gives 24 aspiring footballers (aged 16-20) around the country a shot at a professional career. The aim of the award is to uncover some of Australia’s hidden football talent to become Hyundai A-League stars of tomorrow.

Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, Michael Ephraim said, “The PS4 NPL is widely recognised as the engine room for the future of professional league football in Australia. By introducing the PS4 Player Pathway Award we are offering another opportunity for players who have missed selection through traditional routes to follow their dreams into the A-League.”

Football Federation SA Chief Executive Officer Michael Carter told that the event accomplished it’s intention – to create further awareness of the League and engage the community with our game.

“Football’s reach is far and wide. Participation at every level has again increased this year. Our clubs offer a strong sense of community and the standard of the states highest level of competition is excellent. Generating greater awareness is a strategic priority of the FFSA and I am pleased with results so far. This will be an exciting year for Football in South Australia.”

With the support of FFA, PlayStation Australia and FFSA, the Player Pathway Award seeks to celebrate the vibrant communities found in grassroots football. As official spokesperson for the award, Adam Peacock will front a new show called “The Ones to Watch” where he will follow some of our brightest PS4 NPL stars from all around Australia on their journey through the Player Pathway Award.

“I am really looking forward to following the PS4 NPL talent as part of the Ones to Watch series because football is about more than just a sport – it’s about the players’ stories, the communities, the determination and the passion for our beautiful game,” said Peacock.
