NPLSA Women's Round 16 Preview

Adelaide University vs Metro United
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Friday 27 August, 6:15 PM

Round 16 of the WNPL kicks off tonight between two sides angling for a push up the table, as Uni take on Metro.

Uni enjoyed a weekend off from WNPL action with their scheduled opponents Inter contesting the WNPL and WSL Cup Final, so they’ll be keen to continue where they left off with their 2-2 draw against City.

Metro enter this fixture with fire in their bellies after falling to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Inter in the Cup Final last weekend, with Vanessa Reed’s scruffy opener not proving to be enough to get them over the line.

Uni hold a significant goal difference advantage over Comets and have them firmly in their sights, while Metro now have a game in hand on fourth-placed NTC and sit just two points behind them.

Fulham United vs Football SA NTC
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Friday 27 August, 8:15 PM

The late fixture tonight sees three big points go up for grabs, as Fulham try to salvage something from the season and NTC look to cement their spot in the top half.

Fulham were also given the opportunity to kick their feet up last weekend but can’t afford to take it too easy after their 5-1 hammering at the hands of West a fortnight ago kept them firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.

NTC were unlucky to only come away from their match against Comets with a point, as they rattled both the inside of the post and the underside of the crossbar in the last 15 minutes to eventually settle for a 0-0 draw.

A win would go a long way towards keeping Fulham’s hopes of moving off the foot of the table alive, while three points to NTC could be massive in the context of their season with Metro and Comets hot on their heels.

Adelaide City vs Salisbury Inter
Venue: Adelaide City Park
Date: Saturday 28 August, 5:15 PM

It’s the match of the round as third-placed City clash with second-placed Inter in what promises to be an entertaining spectacle for those in attendance.

City’s hopes of finishing top of the table once again in 2021 took a major hit last weekend, as they were unable to break down ladder leaders West and eventually fell to a 1-0 defeat.

Inter are on cloud nine after claiming the first major piece of silverware in their history following a 3-1 triumph over Metro in the Cup Final, with star forward Cote Rojas scoring twice (including an exquisite, chipped finish) and Emily Condon adding a third.

A win to City would slash their deficit on Inter to three points, albeit with an extra game played, but victory to Inter would stretch it out to nine and stay within touching distance of West.

West Adelaide vs Adelaide Comets
Venue: TK Shutter Reserve
Date: Saturday 28 August, 5:15 PM

The league’s most consistent side this season takes on a club looking to string wins together to mount an assault on the top four, as West meet Comets tomorrow night.

Harriet Burnett scored the only goal of West’s match against City to earn a crucial 1-0 away win, pouncing on a spilled ball by the keeper to slot home and send them 11 points clear of third with six rounds to go.

Comets were saved by the frame of the goal on more than one occasion last weekend against NTC but will settle for an important point that keeps them within four points of last week’s opponents in fourth place.

West will be eager to retain their five-point advantage over Inter, if not increase it, knowing that they’ve played an extra game, while Comets could overtake Metro and move within a point of NTC if results go their way.
