NPL SA Women's Round 13 Preview

Adelaide City vs West Adelaide
Venue: Adelaide City Park
Date: Friday 20 August, 6:15 PM

Round 13 of WNPL action takes place tonight with a cracking match-up between two of the league’s best sides, as City host West in a fixture with potential implications at the top.

Isabel Hodgson’s fantastic swerving free-kick and Alana Fitzsimmons’ finish into an open net after rounding the keeper were unable to net City all three points, as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Uni.

West dismantled Fulham in a crushing 5-1 victory, with Christine Hillyer’s looping long-range effort over the keeper a highlight in their win which kept them on top and stretched their lead over City to eight points.

The home side can cut that margin to five points with a win and stay in the hunt for a double-chance match come finals time, but West will be hoping to increase it to 11 and provide more breathing room at the top.

Football SA NTC vs Adelaide Comets
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Friday 20 August, 8:15 PM

The late kick-off tonight shapes as a crucial one in the context of the season between two sides fighting for finals football, as NTC go head-to-head with Comets.

There wasn’t much for NTC to cheer about in their 3-0 loss to Inter, but they managed to keep hold of fourth spot on the ladder thanks to results around them, albeit by a solitary point over Metro and four clear of their sixth-placed opponents.

Emily Gale’s fortuitous cross-turned-shot from near the by-line and thumping strikes from both Nanako and Yuka Sasaki helped Comets earn a crucial 3-2 win over Metro and keep their finals hopes alive.

Both sides enter tonight’s match knowing what they have to do: an NTC win opens up a seven-point gap on Comets and puts pressure on Metro to win their game in hand, while three points to the women in black and blue cuts that deficit down to one point.
