NPL Review: Gwelup Croatia make flying start in WA

National Premier Leagues football has kicked off in Western Australia for 2020, with Gwelup Croatia leaping to the top of the heap following a big win over Perth Glory Youth.

Jon Stynes netted a hat-trick for Croatia as they cruised to a 5-0 win over the Glory at Game Guardian Stadium.

Hasani Sinclair was also in on the goals with a double to help lift his side to top spot on the table on goal difference.

Also in the goals in the opening round were Bayswater City as they accounted for Armadale SC 4-2 at Alfred Skeet Reserve.

Bayswater twice fought back from a goal down to make a winning start to their campaign before Daryl Nicol delivered a double in the final quarter hour to secure the points.

Cockburn City also came out winners from their away opener as they accounted for Sorrento FC 3-1, as did Floreat Athena courtesy of a 2-0 result over Perth SC.

At Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium, Inglewood United left it late as they edged out Rockingham City 3-2.

Lydon Hodgkiss netted a double for Rockingham but it wasn’t enough as Robert Petkov wrapped up a double of his own with five minutes remaining to add to Christopher Jackson’s second-half goal and seal the win.

The other opening round winner was Balcatta FC as they claimed the spoils over ECU Joondalup courtesy of a second-half own goal.
