NPL Queensland Women's Round 23 Preview

The title, finals and relegation pictures are starting to become a lot clearer but there’s still plenty to play for in the weekend’s NPL Queensland Women’s Round 23 action.

Lions look to continue their Premiership charge when they travel to face last placed Capalaba at May Haynes Field on Sunday evening.

Rob Askew’s side moved seven points clear at the top of the table with a 1-0 win over Easts while Capalaba slipped into the automatic relegation spot on goal difference after suffering a 5-0 loss to Peninsula Power.

Lions ran out 9-1 and 5-1 winners in the two previous meetings between the pair this season.

Gold Coast United and Eastern Suburbs go head-to-head in a top four battle at Coplicks Sports Park on Sunday afternoon.

The sides who are separated by ten points in fourth and second respectively have taken one win apiece from their two previous meetings this season.

Fifth placed Mitchelton look to get their finals push back on track when they host eighth placed Souths United at Teralba Park on Friday night.

The Mustangs slipped nine points behind Gold Coast United after being handed a surprise defeat at the hands of Olympic last weekend.

Souths meanwhile look to surge up the table after moving seven points clear of the relegation zone with a 3-0 victory over QAS in their last outing.

Third placed Peninsula Power host ninth placed Olympic at Goodwin Park on Friday night.

Power moved to within four points of second placed Easts after defeating Capalaba 5-0 last weekend while Olympic climbed off the foot of the ladder on goal difference with a win over Mitchelton.

Mick Gallo’s side came out victorious in each of the previous meetings between the two sides so far this season.

It’s sixth versus seventh at Ballinger Park on Sunday evening when Sunshine Coast Wanderers play host to QAS.

The previous two meetings between the pair have produced a draw as well as a win for the Wanderers.
