NPL Queensland Round 19 Preview

A huge weekend of football awaits in the NPL Queensland as the business end of the season fast approaches.

Just six points separates second from seventh in the NPL Men’s, while at the other end of the ladder, three clubs – Magpies Crusaders United, Redlands United and Brisbane Strikers – are locked in a relegation dogfight.

The Round 19 action kicks off on Friday night at the Croatian Sports Centre as Gold Coast Knights take on Logan Lightning.

The Knights are coming off an emphatic 3-0 win over Brisbane Roar and will be keen to cement their spot in the top four.

The Roar, who are one point clear of Sunshine Coast Wanderers, face a resurgent Capalaba side that has won three games in a row.

On Saturday night, sixth-placed Lions FC meet Gold Coast United, while seventh-placed Moreton Bay United host eighth-placed Eastern Suburbs.

Meanwhile, league-leaders Peninsula Power host bottom club Magpies Crusaders United at home.

Feature Match

Sunshine Coast Wanderers v Olympic FC

Third plays fifth this Sunday on the Sunshine Coast as the Wanderers host Olympic FC at Ballinger Park.

Olympic FC, who have won just one of their past four games, trail Wanderers by two points and are currently fifth on the ladder.

However, that solitary win for Olympic was against league-leaders Peninsula Power – proof that on their day Olympic can match it with any team in Queensland.

But Sunshine Coast are one of the form teams of the competition after winning seven of their past nine games.

They are also particularly strong at home, registering seven wins, one draw and one loss at Ballinger Park this season.

Victory over Olympic would put Sunshine Coast in a great position ahead of tough upcoming matches against Moreton Bay United, Peninsula Power and Eastern Suburbs.
