NPL Queensland Men Round 19 Preview

With just four rounds remaining of the 2023 NPL Queensland Men’s season the weekend’s Round 19 action shapes as crucial for a number of sides finals ambitions.

Third placed Moreton Bay United host fifth placed Brisbane City in a huge match in the race for finals football at Wolter Park on Friday night.

Just three points separate the sides who played out a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture at Imperial Corp Stadium in April.

In another key match up in the finals battle sixth placed Rochedale host fourth placed Lions at Underwood Park on Friday night.

Rovers sit four points adrift of the four after playing out a goalless draw with Peninsula Power last weekend and will know they need a win if they’re to mark their first season in Queensland’s top-flight with a finals appearance.

Lions meanwhile look to maintain their record of having appeared in the finals series in every season that they’ve competed in the NPL with a victory to keep their two point buffer over City intact.

In Saturday’s only match Redlands United and Sunshine Coast Wanderers go head-to-head at Compass Grounds.

The pair currently sit level on 22 points in ninth and tenth on the league table with the winner of Saturday’s match able to seal their NPL status for 2024.

Gold Coast Knights look to maintain their five-point lead at the top of the league table when they play host to Peninsula Power on Sunday afternoon.

Scott Mcdonald’s side defeated Power 4-1 in the reverse fixture, with Aaron Philp’s side who sit seventh needing a win if they’re to keep their faint finals hopes alive.

Olympic make the trip to Coplicks to face Gold Coast United on Sunday evening knowing they need three points if they’re to have any chance of avoiding relegation.

United go in search of a win as they aim to close the five-point gap between themselves and Gold Coast Knights at the top of the table.

In Sunday’s other match Eastern Suburbs, who had their relegation confirmed last weekend host eighth placed Young Roar at Heath Park.
