NPL QLD Women's Round 27 Review

The 2023 NPL Queensland Women’s regular season came to a close with the weekend’s Round 27 action.

Lions closed out their campaign with a 3-1 win over Souths United, who finish eighth at Luxury Paints Stadium.

Tegan Riding starred with a hat-trick as she became the first player to make 200 NPL Queensland Women’s appearances.

Lions and Souths will meet again in the Kappa Women’s Super Cup Final at Imperial Corp Stadium next weekend.

Eastern Suburbs sealed second spot and a home Semi Final with a 3-1 win over Capalaba, who’s relegation was confirmed at Max Haynes Field

Goals from Emma Starr, Sofie Persson and Katie Muscat had Lachlan Leong’s side 3-0 up at the break before Ella Goodman scored a late consolation for the hosts.

Fourth placed Gold Coast United defeated third placed Peninsula Power 1-0 at AJ Kelly Park on Sunday evening.

Claudia Danckert scored the games only goal in the 44th minute when she headed home an Alysa Vazquez cross at the near post.

Fifth placed Mitchelton and seventh placed QAS played out a 2-2 draw at Teralba Park on Sunday evening.

Kallie Peurifoy put the host in front after just four minutes before QAS took control with a pair of quickfire goals from Daisy Brown and Tully Heatley early in the second half but Mitchelton stole a share of the spoils with an 89th minute Kelly Giddes strike.

Sunshine Coast Wanderers finished the season in sixth after defeating Olympic 3-0 at Goodwin Park thanks to goals from Louise Rolfe, Kayla Moore and Isobel Berks.

Olympic finish the season in ninth and will now face SWQ Thunder, who finished second in FQPL 1 in the relegation play off in September.
