NPL QLD Women's Round 27 Preview

The final round of the 2023 NPL Queensland Women’s regular season is here with little room for movement left on the ladder ahead of the weekend’s Round 27 action.

Eastern Suburbs will look to lock in second spot and a home Semi Final when they travel to face last placed Capalaba at Max Haynes Field on Sunday evening.

The Bulldogs meanwhile would require a small miracle to climb into the relegation play-off spot, they sit three points adrift of ninth placed Olympic with a 21-goal difference swing also required if they’re to avoid a last placed finish.

Waiting in the wings if Capalaba do spring a surprise are Peninsula Power who could climb to second with a win over Gold Coast United at AJ Kelly Park.

Power’s superior goal difference means a win would be enough to scrape into second if Easts were to lose.

Mick Gallo’s side come up against a United team who are locked in to finish fourth and will look to continue their strong run of form ahead of a trip to face Lions in the Semi Final at Luxury Paints Stadium in a fortnight’s time.

Lions, who secured their third straight Premiership close out the regular season at home against eighth placed Souths United at Luxury Paints Stadium.

Sunday’s match against Souths, who secured their NPL status for 2024 with a goalless draw against Olympic last weekend will serve as an entrée to the Kappa Women’s Super Cup Final with the pair set to go head-to-head again for the cup at Imperial Corp Stadium next weekend.

Fifth placed Mitchelton will look to cap a strong first season back in the top flight with a win when they host seventh placed QAS at Teralba Park.

Ninth placed Olympic host sixth placed Sunshine Coast Wanderers at Goodwin Park knowing they’re set for the relegation play off against SWQ Thunder barring a loss and heavy swing in goal difference in Capalaba’s favour.

Already confirmed for promotion to the NPL for 2024 are Brisbane City who stormed to the FQPL 1 title with 20 wins from 20 so far this season.

All of the weekend’s NPL Queensland Women’s Round 27 matches kick off at 5pm on Sunday and will be live streamed on FQTV and the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
