NPL QLD Women's Round 26 Preview

The penultimate round of the 2023 NPL Queensland Women’s season is here with home finals and relegation spots still up for grabs ahead of the weekend’s action.

Second placed Eastern Suburbs and third placed Peninsula Power battle it out for second spot and a home final at Heath Park on Friday night.

Easts start the weekend three points ahead of Power and could lock in second position with a win on Friday however Power’s superior goal difference means Mick Gallo’s side could edge ahead into second spot if they were to come out on top.

The sides have played out a draw and an Easts win in their two previous league meetings this season.

Lions, who were crowned Premiers for a third straight season last weekend are back at home with a clash against seventh placed QAS on Friday night.

Gold Coast United secured fourth spot after playing out a 2-2 draw with QAS meaning the pressure is off when they host fifth placed Mitchelton at Coplick Sport Park on Friday.

Mitchelton, who were promoted at the beginning of the 2023 campaign looked to be mounting a serious challenge for fourth spot however three losses in their last four outings leaves them locked in to finish the season in fifth position.

Souths United and Olympic go head-to-head at Wakerley Park in perhaps the most crucial match remaining in the race to avoid relegation.

Souths, who start the weekend five points ahead of Olympic can seal their NPL status for 2024 with a win.

Capalaba, who start the weekend two points adrift of Olympic at the bottom of the table make the trip up the Bruce Highway to face sixth placed Sunshine Coast Wanderers.

The Bulldogs who’s only hope of survival is to climb above Olympic and seal their NPL status via a relegation play victory off picked up their last win against the Wanderers all the way back in April.

All five of the weekend’s NPL Queensland Round 26 matches kick off at 7:30pm on Friday night and will streamed live and free on FQTV or the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
