NPL QLD Women’s Round 11 Review

The top three all picked up wins while QAS climbed to sixth over the course of the weekend’s NPL Queensland Women’s Round 11 action.

League leaders Lions opened the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Sunshine Coast Wanderers at Luxury Paints Stadium on Saturday evening.

Goals from Tegan Riding and Rebecca Kirkup had the home side 2-0 up inside ten minutes before Zara Kruger, who returned to Lions after playing for Brisbane Roar during the Liberty A-League season rounded out the scoring with a strike that found the bottom corner from the top of the box in the 23rd minute.

Also joining Lions from the Roar was Jamilla Rankin who made her debut off the bench at Luxury Paints Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Remaining just two points shy of Lions in second are Easts who also picked up a 3-0 win against Souths United at Heath Park on Saturday afternoon.

Georgina Amos opened the scoring with a looping finish from an unlikely angle before Sofie Persson got in behind the defence and finished one-on-one to double the hosts advantage.

Persson turned provider in the second half when she played in Lauren Askin to finish into to an empty net on the end of a mazy run from the Easts attacker.

Peninsula Power remain in third position after overcoming Mitchelton 5-3 in a Grand Final rematch at Teralba Park on Sunday evening.

Lanni McDougall starred for Power with a hat-trick while Ava Blizzard & Bonnie Davies were also on target for Mick Gallo’s side.

The league’s leading scorer Kallie Peurifoy netted two for Mitchelton with Kayo Yamamuro scoring the home sides other goal.

In Sunday’s other match QAS climbed to sixth on the league table with a 4-1 win over Capalaba at Meakin Park.

The weekend’s final match between Gold Coast United and Olympic was postponed as a result of wet weather and has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 4.
