NPL QLD Men's Grand Final Preview

Gold Coast Knights and Moreton Bay United will battle it out to be crowned 2023 NPL Queensland Men’s Champions in Sunday’s Grand Final at Suncorp Stadium.

For the first time since 2018 the sides who finished first and second on the league table will battle it out in the season’s showpiece match following campaigns to remember at both the Croatian Sports Centre and Wolter Park.

Both sides will compete in their third NPL Queensland Grand Final on Sunday with the Knights being victorious in each of their previous Finals in 2019 & 2022, while the Jets won their sole title in 2015 before being beaten by Western Pride in 2017.

After winning the final last season, Knights look to go back-to-back for the first time in their history in a result that would see Scott McDonald’s side wrap up the treble having already claimed the Premiership and Kappa Pro Series this season.

A commanding 5-0 Semi Final over Peninsula Power headlined by a hat-trick from club stalwart Max Brown last weekend underlined the quality in the current Knights squad.

Moreton Bay also come into Sunday’s Final off the back of an incredibly impressive campaign that saw them secure second spot and finals football for the first time since 2018 along with a spot in the Australia Cup Round of 32.

21-year-old attacker, Marquez Walters has starred for Cameron Millar’s side this season claiming the Golden Boot with 17 league goals.

The Jets won through to the big dance with a 2-1 Semi Final win over Brisbane City thanks to goals from Sam Knight and Joe Scott at Wolter Park last Saturday night.

Knights and Jets and have been unable to be separated in their two meetings so far this season after playing out a 2-2 draw at the Croatian Sports Centre in March along with a 1-1 draw at Wolter Park in June.

Sunday’s Grand Final kicks off at 7pm at Suncorp Stadium and will be live streamed on FQTV and the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
