Goals were tough to come across in round seven of the NPL NSW Women’s competition.
The big games of the day ended in a way most didn’t expect.
Macarthur Rams 0-6 Sydney Olympic
It was one-way traffic at Lynwood Park on Sunday night as round seven wrapped up.
Sydney Olympic controlled proceedings from start to finish and ran away 6-0 winners over the Macarthur Rams.
It all started through Cortnee Vine, latching onto a long ball and lobbing Sham Khamis in the Rams goal.
Soon after it was two as Courtney Nevin took advantage of a loose ball in the box following a Teresa Polias corner.
Vine had her second of the night from the penalty spot making it 3-0.
It was four before the break as Mackenzie Hawkesby beat two defenders before placing a perfect show into Khamis’ bottom corner.
The second half started with Sarah Yatim getting in on the act, using her speed to get into the box before toe poking the ball passed Khamis.
Polias got herself on the scoresheet against her former club with a sublime free kick rounding off the rout.
Olympic are now well in the hunt for the Premiership but face a difficult run home.
Emerging Jets 0-2 Illawarra Stingrays
Illawarra Stingrays continued their good run with another victory on Sunday afternoon against the Emerging Jets.
A goal either side of the break was enough for the girls in pink, pushing them just outside the top four.
Chloe Middleton sent them on their way before Marianna Lawless completed the victory.
Sydney University 0-0 Blacktown Spartans
We expected fireworks at Sydney University Football Ground between Sydney Uni and Blacktown Spartans.
The sparkle was somewhat taken out of the fixture when Tori Tumeth received her marching orders on 40 minutes.
Uni held firm though for the next 50 minutes and even created chances with a player less but to no avail.
Northern Tigers 0-0 APIA Leichhardt
The Northern Tigers hosted APIA Leichhardt at North Turramurra on Sunday afternoon.
It was always going to be a tight match with the Tigers having one of the best defences in the competition.
Neither side could break the other down and they had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
Manly United 0 NWS Koalas 0
Cromer Park was yet another ground that saw no goals in what was a busy match with both side’s going at it on a perfect Sunday’s afternoon.
Both sides couldn’t be separated with the two teams spurning a handful of chances with Manly and the Koalas sharing the spoils.
Bankstown City FC 0 v FNSW Institute 9
Football NSW Institute travelled to Jensen Park on Sunday afternoon to take on bottom placed Bankstown City.
After scoring six last week against the Rams, the Institute had the same amount of goals after the first 45 minutes in this one.
They added another three to round off a 9-0 victory.
The win pushes the Institute into fourth place and on a five-match unbeaten run coming into next week’s blockbuster against Uni.
