NPL NSW Women's - Round 6 Preview

What a round of fixtures we have lined up in the NPL NSW Women’s competition this weekend.

Three absolutely mouth-watering clashes are on the menu with Sydney University v Manly United the pick of the bunch.

Blacktown Spartans v Emerging Jets

At Blacktown Football Park on Sunday, the Blacktown Spartans are set to host the Emerging Jets.

On a high, the Spartans come into this one full of confidence.

The attacking threat the side possesses, in particular through Linda Dudek and Kyra Cooney Cross, the Jets will need to be on high alert.

For the away side, due to COVID-19 protocols, they haven’t been in action over the last two weekends.

They’ll be hoping to get going this weekend.

Illawarra Stingrays v Bankstown City

On the South Coast, the Illawarra Stingrays welcome Bankstown City to JJ Kelly Park.

It was a long time coming but the Stingrays finally picked up their first win of the campaign.

They did it in style with the veteran Michelle Carney winding back the years in a fine display.

As for Bankstown, the tough season continues.

It must be said though, this young side just needs to stay in the game until the half way mark and try to push on from there.

There’s definitely talent there, it just needs time to come together.

Sydney Olympic v Northern Tigers

A massive game is on the line at Peter Moore Field as Sydney Olympic take on the Northern Tigers.

Olympic suffered their first defeat on Sunday, going down in a tight one against Manly.

This week will be no easier and in order to stay in the premiership race, will need to look for all three points.

The Tigers drew their second straight game on Sunday but dropping more points this round will see them fall further off the pace.

Three points are imperative for the Tigers on Sunday.

Sydney University v Manly United

Another big game this round takes place at Sydney Uni Football Ground as Manly United come to town to take on Sydney University.

The Champions are back on top of the table and will look to stay their post Sunday.

Another win will potentially push them further in front from the chasing pack.

After a shock defeat to Blacktown two weeks ago, United bounced back with an important three points on Sunday.

A loss could mean the end of the premiership hopes in this spring finish.

Football NSW Institute v Macarthur Rams

Football NSW Institute welcome the Macarthur Rams to Valentine Sports Park on Sunday.

Two teams with mixed results after the first five rounds, separated by one place and one point.

A heap of injuries along with a changing of the guard has made it tough for the Rams to get on a proper run.

The Institute have come along well, currently on a three match unbeaten run after losing their first two clashes of the season.

NWS Koalas v APIA Leichhardt

In the late game at Christie Park, the North West Sydney Koalas face off against APIA Leichhardt.

Two straight losses for the new girls means things won’t run as smoothly as they seemed they will.

They need to bounce back on Sunday otherwise they could see themselves drop further away from the top four.

As for the Koalas, having only completed three games this season, they currently sit in 10th.

A good side, who can cause damage when they are on and another who desperately need points to stay in the finals fight.
