NPL NSW Women's - Round 5 Preview

After four rounds of action, only two undefeated teams remain in the NPL NSW Women’s competition.

Manly United v Sydney Olympic

At Cromer Park on Sunday, Manly United face off against ladder leading Sydney Olympic.

United suffered a shock defeat last week at the hands of the Spartans, seeing them slip to fifth place on the ladder.

Chris Williams will expect his side to respond on Sunday in what will definitely be a tough task.

Sitting at the top, Olympic will want to remain there following this weekend.

They’ve started to find their scoring boots and their attackers will need to be on their game come Sunday.

Bankstown City v Sydney University

Sydney University travel to bottom-placed Bankstown City at Jensen Park on Sunday.

It’s been a difficult resumption for Bankstown and it does not get easier on Sunday when the Champions arrive.

Twenty-seven goals conceded in four games does not make for good reading.

Uni showed who is who last week and pushed APIA off the top of the table.

They are well drilled and always focused, no matter who the opponent so Sunday will be no different.

Emerging Jets v NWS Koalas POSTPONED

The NWS Koalas travel north to take on the Emerging Jets.

Due to a COVID-19 scare, the Emerging Jets didn’t play last weekend.

They’ve battled well this season and have not been pushovers for any team. They could feel they could take something from this one on Sunday.

Things were going well on Sunday afternoon before the game was abandoned at half time due to heavy rain and winds.

Points are imperative for the Koalas to ensure they remain alive.

Northern Tigers v Football NSW Institute

At North Turramurra Rec Area, the Northern Tigers host Football NSW Institute.

The Tigers are still alive in the fight for finals football but can’t drop too many more points.

It’s a similar situation for the Football NSW Institute who have two losses and two wins in the opening four games.

It makes for an interesting fixture on Sunday afternoon.

Macarthur Rams v Illawarra Stingrays

What would’ve been a top of the table clash before has the Illawarra Stingrays travelling to the Macarthur Rams.

A finals spot looks to be getting further away from the Stingrays week by week.

They’ll need all three points to stay in the race for a play-off spot.

Things weren’t looking good for Macarthur on Sunday before the weather did its part.

They’ aren’t far off finals football but can’t afford to slip further behind.

APIA Leichhardt v Blacktown Spartans

An enticing fixture at Lambert Park as third place APIA Leichhardt welcome the fourth-placed Blacktown Spartans.

It was loss number one and a reality check for the newly promoted APIA on Sunday afternoon.

An immediate reaction will be required in order to show that it was just a mini bump in the road for them.

The Spartans have started the season well despite a coaching change a fortnight ago.

A victory on Sunday would be a massive step forward in the race for the Premiership.
