NPL Finals Series: Get to know Edgeworth Eagles

It’s one of the most incredible feats in Australian football: four successive premierships. Edgeworth Eagles have achieved that, with three appearances on the national stage in the FFA Cup along the way.

Here’s everything you need to know about the NPL Northern NSW outfit.

Edgeworth Eagles were very unfancied at the beginning of the season, after losing half a dozen key personnel to clubs around the country.

However, against the odds and some of the strongest rosters assembled in the NPL Northern NSW in recent history, Edgeworth defied the doubters and won the premiership.

They stormed home, too: there was an eleven-point gap between them and second place Broadmeadow Magic.

There are two big names in this Edgeworth side, and they’re both former Central Coast Mariners.

The evergreen Daniel McBreen, and recently-retired Hyundai A-League defender Josh Rose have both turned out for Edgeworth this season.

Such is the understanding among this Eagles side though, that it wouldn’t be fair to pinpoint those men as the two stars.

Players such as Pat Wheeler and Josh Evans, Dom Bizzarri and Josh Low are all key cogs in the Edgeworth wheel.

Daniel McBreen is still an important part of the Edgeworth team.

The coach is Damian Zane, the man who has been at the helm since their magnificent run began in 2015.

There were reports that Zane was considering not carrying on in the top job at Edgeworth prior to this season but luckily for the Eagles, he did.

With the club, he’s won four NPL Northern NSW premierships and two championships. He’s led the club to the FFA Cup Round of 32 two teams, and the Round of 16 once.

Edgeworth’s home ground is Jack McLaughlan Oval.

It’s hosted a number of NPL Northern NSW grand finals, but is yet to host an FFA Cup Round of 32 (or later) match.

Edgeworth travel to Lions FC in Richlands, near Brisbane, for their Elimination Final. The match takes place at Lions Stadium on Saturday 15 September at  7.30pm.
