New era in Western Australia with joint NPL season launch

Football West broke new ground at Perth SC’s Dorrien Gardens on Monday night with the joint launch of the National Premier Leagues WA Men’s and Women’s seasons.

This is the first time that Western Australia has had a women’s NPL competition.

Special guest the Honourable Mick Murray, Minister of Seniors and Ageing, Volunteering and Sport and Recreation, addressed the audience, as well as Football West Chairman Sherif Andrawes.

Club presidents also attended, while MC Angie Ayers conducted a Q&A with ECU Head Coach Kenny Lowe, Northern Redbacks Head Coach and Women’s Standing Committe Chair Conrad McKelvie, Hyundai NTC Head Coach Ben Anderton, Sorrento captain Reece Vittiglia and Fremantle City skipper Mikayla Lyons.

The men’s season begins this weekend with all six matches taking place on Saturday, 14 March.

The women’s comeptition gets under way on Friday, 20 March, when Curtin University host NTC. The remainder of the the women’s round One is on Sunday, 22 March.

Football West will be offering equal prize money for the winners of the men’s and women’s NPL competitions.
