National Premier Leagues weekend wrap

The National Premier Leagues are in full swing right around the country with a number of teams enjoying bright starts to their respective campaigns across Australia.

Here’s our wrap of the latest results from the NPL competitions over the weekend.

NPL NSW

APIA Leichhardt continue to hold a share of the competition lead after defeating Wollongong Wolves 4-2, while Bonnyrigg White Eagles secured a 2-1 upset win over arch-rivals Sydney United.

Sydney Olympic remain level with APIA after edging Sydney FC 1-0, while third-placed Blacktown snapped a three-game winless run with a 3-2 win over Hakoah.

NPL NNSW

Charlestown City continue to lead the charge in Northern NSW although they were forced to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Edgeworth Eagles on Sunday.

Elsewhere, second-placed Broadmeadow Magic defeated Valentine 2-0 while the impressive Maitland Magpies edged Hamilton Olympic 3-2 in a thriller.

NPL VIC

Joint competition-leaders Avondale and Bentleigh Greens both recorded narrow wins over the weekend, defeating Northcote City 1-0 and Green Gully 2-1 respectively.

In other results, Dandenong Thunder crushed Hume City 3-0 while Kingston City edged Melbourne Knights 1-0.

NPL SA

MetroStars remain on top of the NPL South Australia following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Croydon Kings on Saturday. 

Second-placed Adelaide City recorded a 1-0 win over Para Hills Knights while third-placed Campbelltown City thumped Sturt Lions 5-1.

NPL QLD

Western Pride continue to sit atop the Queensland NPL standings following a 5-0 hammering of Redlands United away from home.

Elsewhere, Olympic FC sit just one point back after cruising to a 5-0 win against Sunshine Coast FC, while Brisbane City defeated Magpies Crusaders 4-3 in a thriller.

NPL WA

In the West, Bayswater City and Cockburn City share the competition lead after notching wins over Subiaco (3-1) and Balcatta (4-2) respectively.

Perth SC remain a point behind in third following a 2-2 draw with Stirling Lions while fourth-placed Perth Glory slipped after suffering a 2-1 loss to Inglewood United.

CAPITAL FOOTBALL

In the ACT, league-leaders Tuggeranong United’s perfect start to the season came to an end with a 3-1 loss to Canberra Olympic.

Canberra FC made it three straight wins to start the season with a 2-0 win over Riverina Rhinos while Tigers FC cruised past Monaro Panthers 3-0.
