Lions and Rangers fight for vital points

The 2014 Victory League season is past the halfway point as it enters Round 12, a round that could prove vital for some teams’ top four aspirations.

Kingborough Lions host Northern Rangers at Lightwood Park to kick off the round, in a match that has both teams in a desperate fight for points following back to back defeats for both clubs.

Rangers have conceded 10 goals in two games, with heavy losses at home seeing them slip down to fourth on the table with just three points separation from Devonport in fifth. Two weeks ago the Rangers were facing off for top spot but now face a battle for their position in the top four.

After a strong start to the season, Kingborough face an uphill battle in achieving their top four ambitions, Stephen Pitchford’s Lions have suffered consecutive losses, pushing them into sixth position and two games outside of the four, making the Round 12 meeting a crucial one for both clubs.

Glenorchy Knights will look to continue their resurgence, up against title contenders Olympia. The Knights have claimed four points in two weeks to lift from the bottom of the table, after collecting just three points from the opening nine rounds of the competition. This Saturday night, Glenorchy face second placed Olympia FC Warriors at Warrior Park, as they search for a third result in as many weeks, Olympia got an unconvincing win against Launceston City last week but rested some key cogs that should return as they search for a return to form on their home deck.
