Gala Day marks start of club’s 50-year celebrations

The opening of the PlayStation 4 NPL Capital Football 2017 Season will see the Monaro Panthers begin its 50-year celebrations with a Gala Day at the Riverside Stadium.

For 50 years the Monaro Football Club has been an integral part of the sporting scene in the Canberra Region. To mark its half-century the football club is planning a series of events during the year, beginning with the Gala Day at Riverside on Sunday April 2.

Come and watch Monaro men’s first team take on last year's premiers and FFA Cup semi-finalists Canberra Olympic.  The young Panthers are ready to challenge for early supremacy in what will be a terrific season of skillful football.

The Women’s Premier League team will be playing last season’s finalists Canberra FC which will be a good test for the club’s full time Women’s Technical Director, Angelo Maralit.  The club is looking to take women’s football to the next level by employing Angelo both as Women’s Technical Director and coach. He is welcomed to the club after holding positions at both the Capital Football and Central Coast Academies.

Monaro Panthers’ President, Simon France, said women’s football was well positioned in Australia with a successful national team playing in a world-wide sport.

“Our role now is to make the most of that, which is exactly where we are headed at Monaro,” Mr France said.

“We have already seen Angelo’s passion for the game and his ability to motivate and encourage the women and girls of the club has been tremendous.”
